And nothing of value was lost.

GM and UAW beancounters did a good job of taking that all away. ;_;

It's been almost 5 years now......Damn, Pontiac, I'm gonna miss you. First car I ever rode in was an early '90s Pontiac(Trans Sport, that is.). Not to mention KITT and the Bandit, etc. R.I.P. to one of the best ever American automakers. =(

What makes it hurt even more is knowing that the GTO is pretty much the granddaddy of all muscle cars. The Mustang, the Camaro, the Corvette, the Charger all followed in the GTO's....er, tiretracks.

GM wants only make money... -_-''
They don't care about what fans think about it...

But shut down brands, in my opinion, is just coward.
Because you demonstrate you can't make good cars for your brands.
And then in this period GM is only importing Daewoo cars and rebranding them as Chevrolets (At least what they're doing in Europe).
Just DISGUSTING.

One correction, it was only the 1984 with the Iron Duke 4 cylinder that was plagued to go poof.

GTO (current one) is Aussie, unless you meant the real American Muscle one, than I'll stfu. XD

But anyway, the Flamiero cracked me up! Fiero's are such a blast to drive!

I just realized that I didn't know which GTO I meant. :O I do know they're bringing the Commodore's long-base-version Statesman over as the new Caprice, to replace the G8. Least that's what I've heard.

VW,the owner of Lambo and Porsche wouldn't be interested, neither would Fiat, the owner of Ferrari since it already has Chrysler as its bitch.they would've kept Pontiac as a Sports car brand and it would've had so much potential but the retards at the company had other plans,i blame the Pontiac Aztek for destroying the brand's reputation.

Damn. Maybe if they had tried to bring the Fiero back, and modernized it, made it more reliable, and put a bigger engine in it, along with a luxury suspension and all-wheel drive.......

And before they went, I would've at least seen the Fiero brought back and modernized. Along with a more powerful engine put under the hood.

All I can tell you is that the reasons it's going down are the reasons I've become horribly jaded with labor unions. They don't call the Big Three "Healthcare and Pensions" companies for nothing.

There's Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches, Gumperts, Mercedes-Benzes, and Audis, and those are imports. Lambo and Ferrari are Italian, and Porsch, Gumpert, Mercedes, and Audi are German.

Pontiac will, and should be, sorely missed. I may not have owned a Pontiac (though I almost did!), they were great cars to look at and drive in their heyday. A decade or so of badge engineering and a lack of fun cars can kill a car like this or Plymouth and Olds before it. It's even more of a shame with the recent slight upturn in competitiveness. Damn this economy and GM's situation.

Either way, a fitting eulogy and a nice pic as well. :) Sorry for the rant, but it's a big loss to gearheads.

As Ive heard...the funky thing is ive seen Saturn commercials alot. In alot of ways they were playing flagship of price assurance for GM. If the do get put on the chopping block, I see them going. They were much like Geo, and interesting joint company idea that never really took of. The Vue was a nice car although.

Pontiac was the most awesome.

And Saturn...why they are shutting that down I don't know. They want to concentrate on luxury cars. WTF??? No one can afford those.

I know, right? :iconohnoesplz:

But yeah...Caddy's too high priced even though their models are interesting...and Buick's geriatric. I think they're keeping Buick because it's #1 in China.

Which means the only things we commoners have to look forward to are Chevys. The Camaro is a cheesy retro-tribute and the Cobalt SS is gonna be phased out soon. ;_; Which leaves...the Volt.

I totally agree with most of the ones in this article, except two. The Montana SV6 (the "half-assed redesign with a long goofy nose") sells very well here in Canada, and I personally think it's a pretty good minivan that can easily rival Dodge's Caravan. The Sunfire sure was cheap and (arguably) ugly, but look at the streets around (at least here), they. are. everywhere! I call that a definite success, even if the car itself sucks.

Oh, I admit that. Every recent model since the '90s (or even mid/late-80s) is an anti-classic, it seems. Successes, but short-lived.
